Cognitive Behavioral Techniques
Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, is a common type of talk therapy that for some people can work as well or better than medication to treat depression.
A therapist helps you identify negative or false thoughts and replace those thoughts with healthier, more realistic ones.
First, CBT makes you aware you have these thoughts. Then it teaches you to swap them for more positive ones. The change in your attitude leads to a change in your behavior.
Muse Meditation Headset
We will be introducing the use of Muse: the brain sensing headband to elevate your meditation experience. It gently guides your meditation through changing sounds of weather based on the real-time state of your brain. This allows you to obtain a deeper sense of focus and motivates you to build a highly rewarding practice. Meditation has been scientifically shown to reduce symptoms associated with stress, depression and anxiety as well as improve focus, performance and quality of life.
Art/Sand and Play Therapy
There are many ways to heal and explore our feelings in addition to talk therapy for all ages. The expressive therapies of art/sand and play therapy have been shown to access our right brain and implicit memories to facilitate deeper healing. Although sand tray therapy may look like child’s play, it is a highly therapeutic and multidimensional form of therapy that can provide emotional release and realization for a person in therapy. Through creative expression, a person in therapy is able to manifest in sand the things they would otherwise not be able to vocalize or address in traditional therapy. The therapist treats the person as whole and healed, knowing that the process of sand tray therapy allows the person to find the answers that are already within them. In addition, play therapy is the preferred method of treatment for children due to their limited verbal skills. Play Therapy is defined by APT as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.”
Parenting Support/Family Therapy
Being a parent is one of the most joyous and difficult tasks there are. We have found the progress on one individual is enhanced by the treating and support of the whole family. This can include just parents, siblings or whole family therapy. Families can sometimes get stuck in destructive behavior patterns that affect all the members in different ways. We strive to enhance these relationships through our understanding of systems and family therapy. Our goal is to improve the communication in the family to foster each individual family members well being.
